“Flowers For Spring” are two choreographed portraits of an aging mind: ‘Abuela’ and ‘Daydreaming With Jean’‘Abuela’ is about Maria Gran Nick who lived with dementia for 15 years, spending the rest of her days living out the fantasies of her past. The piece expresses the duality of Maria’s mind and it journey’s through her memories as a young Jewish-Polish woman living in Havana, Cuba during the 1940’s. ‘Daydreaming With Jean’ is about Jean Teemer McCracken and takes place inside the mind Jean, an old woman who slipped into dementia during the last few months of her life. When this happened it was as though she split into a thousand pieces, left with only fragments of herself.
