Pioneer Winter Collective: “Apollo”
Miami Theater Center
Event Navigation
Pioneer Winter Collective, Miami Light Project, and FUNDarte presents “Apollo,” in partnership with Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home series, on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 at the Miami Theater Center.
Apollo is a dance-theater work exploring intergenerational queer dynamics, memory, HIV/AIDS, and legacy. This biomythography uses dance-theater to delve into the intersection of personal history, cultural memory, and mythology.
Apollo centers on legacy, connection, and features bodies and voices that are left out of the canon. It also confronts ageism and reimagines who gets to be seen and celebrated on-stage. At the heart of our work is a profound exploration of the human body. The work we create expands what dance can be, so bodies survive, thrive, and are witnessed. The effects of constant erasure based on race, body type, age, gender, and ability are evident – and this goes for both the artists as well as the audience.
You won’t want to miss our most deeply personal and urgent work to date. Along with Miami Light Project, Apollo is co-presented with FUNDarte as part of Out (Loud) in the Tropics, and in partnership with Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home series.
