Dancing on Her Knees by Nilo Cruz

This theatrical and whimsical play takes place in Miami Beach on All Souls’ Day. It follows the travails of a lonely transgender woman, who tries to summon the spirit of her dead lover, but instead she is confronted with two restless ballroom dancers who had been her idols, a German umbrella mender, and two “body guardian” angels. Nilo Cruz takes us on a journey of wit and magic realism that offers a fable of loss, fear and disorientation during the AIDS pandemic.
