For this evening of Boleros Meets Jazz GRAMMY Award-winning artist Brian Lynch, Musical Director and Arranger, on trumpet and flugelhorn, has assembled an outstanding ensemble in what promises to be a beautiful marriage of great musical genres. So well known and respected, his first name alone — Cándido — is all that is necessary for jazz aficionados to know who he is. Credited with being the first percussionist to bring conga drumming to jazz, Cándido Camero is also known for his contributions to the development of mambo and Afro-Cuban jazz. Acclaimed saxophonist Donald Harrison’s music is saturated with the traditional music of his native New Orleans while opening up new areas for time, harmony, and melody in jazz. Invited vocalist Gema Corredera has a sound that is as strongly influenced by her Cuban roots as it is by Jazz, Brazilian song, Opera, and Flamenco. Her voice moves fluently across these genres, creating a rich contemporary mix in a class of its own. Gema is a sophisticated singer with a stage presence that is down-to-earth and captivating. The evening’s ensemble counts on some of the most respected and prodigious musicians in Jazz with Ivan Renta on alto sax, Dr. Ed Calle on tenor sax, Chad Bernstein on trombone, Mike Brignola on baritone sax, Kemuel Roig on piano, Rodner Padilla on bass, Alexis “Pututi” Arce on drums, and Armando Arce on percussion.
